When was the last time you gave thought to the final word in most of your prayers?

For us who call Jesus our Lord and Savior, our prayers are distinctive in the way they end. We often, if not always, end them the same way—with an “Amen.” It’s like an audible full stop, especially so if we’re gathered with loved ones to pray. The “Amen” tells everyone that we’ve come to the end of the prayer! Yet, the “Amen” means so much more than just a punctuation or tag to end our prayers.

A Wonderful, Hidden Truth

I want to show you today that in your “Amen” is a tremendous truth. Captured in a single word is the revelation that will help you see God’s promises come to pass in your life!

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

Founded in Faith

You see, the word “Amen,” meaning, “sure, truly,” comes from the Hebrew root word for “faith”—emunah. So when you say, “Amen,” you are declaring your trust in our loving heavenly Father to bring about what you’re praying and asking Him for. Through that one word, you are saying, “Father, let this be so in my life!” In that little word, you are declaring your faith is in Him alone to bring His promises and blessings to pass in your situation.

Now, we know that we can’t earn the blessings of God as they are freely given to us by His grace. This is precisely why saying “Amen” is also a declaration of our dependence on the unmerited, undeserved favor of God. When you say “Amen”, you are saying, “Let this blessing be unto me on the basis of Jesus’ finished work alone.”

Declare ‘Amen!’ to the Glory of God

Beloved, saying “Amen” shouldn’t be a ritual. It’s an opportunity to exercise and express our faith. It is an opportunity to say to the Father, “Surely, because of Jesus, let this blessing I’m asking for, let this promise from the Word I’m hearing about, be unto me for Your glory.” When you have such a revelation of this word, every “Amen” you say ascends to the Father as praise, carrying the sweet savor of your heartfelt appreciation of His Son’s work at the cross for us.

Some scholars say that there are over 7,000 promises in the Bible—and they are all for us to lay hold of today. The Bible tells us that the Lord, the God of our salvation, “daily loads us with benefits”, and that He has fresh, new mercies for us every morning (see Ps 68:19; Lam 3:22–23)!

Beloved, because Christ paid with His life at the cross to give us every one of these blessings, He saying to us, “Yes!” regarding each blessing, and it is our privilege to say, “Amen!” in response!

So speak your “Amen” today with revelation and understanding, and see God’s promises come to pass in your life!
